Week 3 Day 4

Sorry that I’m still behind!

Thursday was a really long day! Since we have a test every Friday, we spent most of classes that day going over the week’s materials and trying to memorize a bunch of weird grammatical rules.

After class, we all went to an Uzbek restaurant called Caravan, where we had a bunch of meat dishes that were really good (but not necessarily all that healthy). There were also some (stray?) cats walking around under our table, which made it hard to follow Elliotts rule about not petting animals that don’t belong to a host family...but none of us minded too much, because the cats were all really cute.

A bun filled with minced meat.
A dumpling. Filled with the same meat.

After that, we had a few hours to kill before our excursion, so we headed to the park and played Mafia with Devin’s cards again...since the roles are assigned randomly based on the card you draw, it’s much harder to guess who’s what, so the game is more fun. There are also a lot more parts, which makes it less boring, but our favorite card is easily the “проститутка” (prostitute).

We played a few rounds before walking over to the building where we were having our traditional dance workshop, where we learned a Moldovan version of the Hora. By the end we were all exhausted because of the heat and lack of water, but it was still really fun!

It was about 5:30 when we finished, and we were all in desperate need of a cold drink, so we walked down Pushkin Ave. to Robert’s coffee, where we did some homework and relaxed for a bit. I had a mint milkshake, obviously not the most Moldovan thing, but it was still good, and I hadn’t had a milkshake in a while, so it was a nice treat.

The milkshake.

Greg had also installed something on his phone to let him check AP Scores early, so we all took turns logging into college board on his phone to see how badly we had failed (I’m just kidding, everyone did pretty well!).

After that I took the bus home, took a quick shower, and tried to do as much studying as possible AND finish the homework our teachers had given us...I was definitely exhausted by the end of it and headed to bed later than I would’ve liked, but it was all good in the end.
