Week 3 Day 1

Almost up to date!

Yesterday (Monday) was a pretty great day.

I was feeling a bit more tired than usual in the morning, but I still managed to get to school on time, luckily.

It was also Cameron’s birthday, so we all made sure to talk about anything but that, until lunchtime. We bought some pastries at a bakery, since we were having an independent lunch, and then bought some ice cream to eat on our way to the American Councils building.

We were meeting there for our third city quest, where we were going to visit the National Library; but since they only allow limited numbers we split into groups with half of us visiting on Monday and the other half on Tuesday.

We got to the library, where we had to apply for a library card in order to gain entry, and once we got ours we went upstairs to go look for some books. This turned out to be harder than it seemed, as since books aren’t available to the public, you have to fill out a sheet of paper and wait for the librarian to bring the book to you (you’re also not allowed to take the books home). Initially, our assignment included finding four books, copying down the first few sentences, and taking a picture with it, but because it was so unnecessarily complicated, our language partner called Marina, who let us off the hook.

My library card.

From there, I left the library to meet Maggie and Miette in Stephan cel Mare park, while Georgia stalled Cameron and waited for Sara and Renee. Since Maggie and Miette were going to the library the next day, they had gone to buy a cake and candles after school, and I met them in the park to make sure everything was ready for Cameron’s surprise party.

Eventually, the others arrived, and we lit the candles on the cake, sang to Cameron (and Georgia, whose birthday was a few weeks ago and she didn’t get a party). Even though there were only a few of us there, it was still really fun, and although it was really simple, we laughed a lot and I’m sure it’ll end up being one of the highlights from this summer.

Before.
After.

Since the store wasn’t selling candles for the right numbers that we needed, Maggie decided to get a 6 for Cameron (who just turned 16) and an 8 for Georgia (who just turned 18), but before this explanation, we were all really confused!

We also didn’t have any knives (although we had forks and plates), so we decided not to bother with attempting to cut slices, so we all just grabbed forks and ate it straight off the plate...

When we were full, Cameron, Maggie and Georgia decided to head over to the market and Sara and I walked to the post office, where I wanted to mail some postcards. Unfortunately, the store selling stamps wasn’t open (even though it was during working hours?), so we decided to just catch the next bus home.

I did some homework, had a bit of dinner—I wasn’t very hungry, but didn’t know how to explain the afternoon to my host mom, so I ended up eating anyways—and tried to do a bit of summer reading before going to bed.
